Blog etiquette, that is the question. What are the do's and don'ts of the blogging community? Are there unwritten rules that I have yet to learn? I am a newbie blogger, if you will, and that is something I have wondered about for some time now.

My first question is about comments other bloggers leave. If they ask you a question, do you comment back to them on your own blog or on their blog? Maybe by email? And if you reply to them on your blog, do they normally visit your page again looking for a response?

I am also confused about adding blogs to your blog roll. There are a few blogs I like to visit regularly that aren't on my blog roll and I haven't added them because I'm not sure if that is something you ask permission to do? And if I don't add them and continue to lurk on their blog, is it considered "stalking?" :P

I need some feedback from the experienced bloggers, pretty please! ;)

Amy, I think it's just a matter of doing what you want. Some bloggers (like Busy Dad) reply to each commenter in the comment itself. I seem to answer questions in the comments, sometimes I go to their blog and alert, other times I email the response. I don't know if there's a written rule; I just do what I can.

As for the blogroll, I add people that I like to read. I can't get to them all, but I add them with the hopes that I will get through my blog roll weekly. I've noticed my link on people's blogs that I've never even read. I don't consider them stalkers, at all.

I'm new too. If I know the person and it's a small blog (more personal and written in a less artistic way...like someone's family blog), I'll ask if I can link it. If it's a huge blog like Mishi's or Sarcastic Mom where they get 20 comments before 7 a.m., I would just link it! I usually answer question's on my blog. But, like Mishi said...it all just depends and I'm guessing there is no "rule."

All good questions, Amy.

I'm not an experienced blogger, but this is my take. I usually respond to comments with a comment on my own post. It's just more time-efficient for me. If it's someone new that I haven't seen around before who leaves a comment, then I will go to their blog and thank them for visiting mine. I get a few people who email me their responses when I leave comments on Weekly Winners, etc . . .

I only have blogs on my blog roll that I check regularly (mostly SMW blogs). I do have blogs bookmarked that I hope to return to again, but I won't add them to my list until I start to visit them at least once a week.

Welcome! Took a look at your Weekly Winners and I loved the pics. They were all great, but I must say I'm fond of spider plants.

I don't know the answer to many of those questions. I would say that for adding the link, you generally don't need permission because people want the links.

As far as where to answer questions? If you find the answer to that one, let me know too!

I think those are great questions and I'm glad to get some answers too.

I would think the answers to questions would be in the comments, because you can always subscribe via email to any future comments, so if you ask a question you can be emailed when it's answered.

... thats what I do anyway.
